Umuganda Community Service

On the last Saturday of the month, join Rwanda's national tradition of Umuganda — a mandatory community service morning where all Rwandans come together to work on local projects. Meet your guide early in the morning and travel to a local community. Participate in the day's project alongside residents — this could be building a community structure, cleaning public spaces, planting trees, or maintaining roads. After 2-3 hours of communal work, gather with the community for a traditional shared meal and conversation. This is a rare and authentic opportunity to connect with Rwandan people and understand the spirit of unity that has helped rebuild the nation.
